Tough Conversations

Beginning a conversation about death and end-of-life care can create anxiety or confusion for older adults, their families and even the most seasoned professionals.  Research has found that discussing advanced care plans with older adults can improve their quality of life and the experience of end-of-life care.

Miriam Oliensis-Torres, MSW, C-ASWCM, Advanced Care Manager at Stowell Associates with over 30 years of experience, will present a two part series.

Part One is “Care Planning with Diverse Ethnic Groups” on April 7, 2017 from 9 am to 12 noon.  Our society is increasingly diverse and professionals need to understand the client’s values, spirituality and relationship dynamics in order to provide the best care possible at the end-of-life.

Part Two is “End-of-Life Guide for Persons with Dementia” on May 5, 2017 from 9 am to 12 noon.  The end-of-life care of those with dementia can reflect the wishes of the person if there is advance planning.

Both sessions will be held at Brookfield Rehabilitation & Specialty Care, 18740 W Bluemound Rd, Brookfield.  This course meets continuing education requirements provided by UWM.
